Compress Image to 10KB

10KB is the tightest file-size limit you're likely to meet — it turns up most often on signature uploads and on older exam and recruitment portals built when bandwidth was scarce. At this size every byte counts: a typical phone photo is hundreds of times larger, and a careless compressor will either overshoot the limit or reduce your image to blocky noise.

PixKB searches JPEG quality levels automatically and keeps the best-looking result that still lands at or under 10,240 bytes. When quality alone can't get there, it reduces the dimensions step by step rather than in one destructive jump — and you can watch each pass on the size gauge. Your file never leaves your device.

What actually fits in 10KB

Dimensions decide everything at this size. A signature cropped tight to the ink — around 300×100 pixels — fits 10KB easily with crisp strokes. A passport-style photo needs to be small, roughly 200–260 pixels wide, to stay recognisable under 10KB. A full-resolution camera photo cannot fit at all without being scaled down, so let the tool downscale it, or set exact pixel dimensions first on the Dimensions tab if your form states them.

Signatures: crop before you compress

Most failed signature uploads waste their byte budget on empty paper. Sign in black ink on plain white paper, photograph it in even light, and crop right up to the edges of the signature before compressing. White space compresses well, but shadows, paper texture and grey tints do not — a clean, high-contrast scan leaves far more of the 10KB for the strokes that matter. The signature resizer covers dimensions as well as size.

When the form says "10KB to 20KB"

Ranges are common for signatures, and a file that is too small is rejected just as firmly as one that is too large. If your result comes out under the minimum, switch the size rule to "At least target" and enter the lower bound — PixKB pads the file with invisible metadata so it clears the minimum without changing a single pixel. For a 20KB ceiling instead, use compress to 20KB.

Frequently asked questions

Can any photo be compressed to 10KB?

Yes, but only at small dimensions. The tool reduces quality first and then scales the image down until it fits — expect roughly 200–300 pixels on the long side for a photo, more for a simple black-and-white signature.

Why is my 10KB signature blurry?

Usually because the source has too much empty paper or uneven lighting, which wastes bytes. Crop tight to the signature and use a clean white background, then compress again.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. Compression runs in your browser with the HTML5 Canvas, so the image never leaves your device — the page even works offline once loaded.
